French actor-director Samuel Theis, known for his role in the critically acclaimed film "Anatomy of a Fall," has been accused of rape by a crew member on his latest directorial feature, "Je te jure" (I Swear). The allegations were brought to light by French newspaper Libération, who reported that the incident occurred at a party held at a rented apartment by the production last year.
According to the crew member, they were too intoxicated to give consent when the sexual encounter took place. However, Theis responded to the allegations, stating that the encounter was consensual. His lawyer further emphasized that their client has not been charged or contacted by authorities regarding the matter. The crew member reportedly quit the production immediately after the alleged assault.
"Je te jure" is currently in post-production, and Theis has been ordered by the film's production company, Avenue B, to complete his work remotely from Paris, as reported by Libération. Deadline has reached out to representatives for Theis and Avenue B but has not received a response.
This accusation against Samuel Theis comes amidst the ongoing controversy in the French film industry regarding the allegations of sexual assault made against veteran actor Gérard Depardieu. Depardieu's reputation has suffered in recent weeks following the airing of a revealing episode of the investigative show "Complément d'Enquête," which delved into historic accusations of sexually inappropriate behavior lodged against him.
