Toyota Motor Co. has announced a recall of 1 million vehicles due to a defect that could result in airbags failing to deploy, increasing the risk of injury. The recall encompasses a variety of Toyota and Lexus models manufactured between 2020 and 2022, including popular vehicles such as Toyota Avalons, Camrys, Highlanders, RAV4s, Siennas, and Corollas, as well as certain hybrid versions of these models.

The recall comes as a result of concerns over sensors in the front passenger seat that may have been improperly manufactured. These sensors, found in the vehicles being recalled, could potentially short circuit, leading to the airbag system's failure in accurately determining the occupant's weight. Consequently, the airbags may not deploy in certain types of crashes, posing a significant safety risk.

To rectify the issue, Toyota and Lexus dealerships will be conducting inspections of the Occupant Classification System (OCS) sensors and replacing them, if necessary, free of charge for vehicle owners. Toyota has assured customers that it will notify them by the middle of February 2024 if their cars are included in the recall.

Concerned Toyota owners who believe their vehicles may be affected by the recall can contact Toyota's customer service line at 1-800-331-4331 for further details. For Lexus vehicles, owners can dial 1-800-255-3987 to obtain additional information regarding the recall.

Ensuring the safety and well-being of their customers remains a top priority for Toyota Motor Co. This proactive recall initiative aims to address any potential airbag issues promptly and effectively, minimizing the risk of injury resulting from airbag failure. Vehicle owners are urged to take swift action and contact the respective customer service helpline to determine if their vehicles are subject to the recall and to schedule any necessary inspections or replacement appointments. Following the recall, Toyota is committed to providing timely resolutions and ensuring the continued satisfaction and peace of mind for its customers.
