Toyota Recalls 1 Million Vehicles Over Airbag Defect, Owners Urged to Take Action
ICARO Media Group
In a recent announcement, Toyota Motor Co. revealed that it will be recalling approximately 1 million vehicles due to a defect that could potentially lead to airbags not deploying, increasing the risk of injury. The recall encompasses a range of Toyota and Lexus vehicles with model years from 2020 to 2022.
The Toyota models included in the recall are the Toyota Avalon, Camry, Highlander, RAV4, Sienna, and Corolla, along with some of their hybrid counterparts. Additionally, Lexus models affected by the recall include the ES250 sedan and the RX350 SUV, among others.
The issue at hand revolves around the sensors in the front passenger seat, which may have been manufactured improperly. These sensors have the potential to short circuit, resulting in the airbag system being unable to accurately determine the occupant's weight. In certain types of crashes, this could lead to the airbags failing to deploy.
To address this concern, Toyota and Lexus dealers will be conducting inspections on the occupant classification system (OCS) sensors and replacing them if necessary at no cost to the vehicle owners. Toyota has stated that owners will be notified of the recall by the middle of February 2024.
Affected Toyota owners are urged to contact Toyota directly at 1-800-331-4331 for further details regarding the recall. For Lexus owners, more information can be obtained by calling 1-800-255-3987.
This recall exemplifies Toyota's commitment to prioritizing the safety of its customers. Owners are advised to take immediate action by contacting the respective customer service numbers provided to ensure their vehicles are inspected and serviced accordingly.
