In response to safety concerns, Tesla has initiated a recall of more than 120,000 vehicles due to doors that fail to meet U.S. government regulations. The company acknowledged that the affected doors can be unlocked during a crash, potentially causing them to unlatch and open, thereby increasing the risk of injury.

The recall affects Tesla Models S and X manufactured for model years 2021 through 2023. Despite the issue, Tesla stated that there have been no reported injuries as a result of the problem as of December 14th.

To address the issue, Tesla plans to release an over-the-air (OTA) software update, which will be provided to owners free of charge. The update is intended to rectify the problem and enhance the safety of the affected vehicles. Tesla is expected to send out notification letters to owners on February 17, 2024.

This recent recall comes on the heels of another recall issued by Tesla just last week. The earlier recall affected nearly 2 million vehicles in the United States and was prompted by concerns surrounding the safety of the automaker's autopilot driver-assistance feature. After a federal investigation revealed that Tesla's autosteer function may lead drivers to neglect their responsibilities while operating the vehicles, Tesla took the precautionary measure of recalling the vehicles.

It is worth noting that this is not the first time Tesla has faced recalls related to safety concerns. In February of last year, over 360,000 vehicles were recalled due to issues associated with the company's "full self-driving" software.

Tesla has yet to respond to multiple requests for comments regarding the recent recalls. However, in a statement posted on social media platform X, which is owned by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, the company accused certain news outlets of misrepresenting the safety systems employed by Tesla. Tesla emphasized that its data shows its features have been effective in saving lives and preventing injuries.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has been closely monitoring Tesla's autopilot features and the efficacy of the remedies deployed by the company. A spokesperson for the NHTSA has affirmed the agency's commitment to ensuring the highest level of safety, emphasizing that their investigation into Tesla's autopilot remains open.

In the face of these recalls, Tesla continues to prioritize the safety of its customers. By implementing software updates and addressing safety concerns, the company is taking steps to uphold its commitment to delivering a safe driving experience. Tesla owners are encouraged to stay informed and take prompt action as outlined in the forthcoming notification letters to ensure the safety of their vehicles and themselves.
