In a recent video released by Tesla, the luxury electric car manufacturer has outlined a challenging procedure for accessing the front trunk latch release in the event of a dead battery. This unexpected hurdle has left some Tesla owners questioning the practicality and safety of the process.

According to the Tesla Model S owners manual, if the car's battery has no low voltage power, the hood release cannot be operated conventionally as it requires power to function. Instead, owners must resort to a complex alternative method.

To gain access to the front trunk, also known as the "frunk," Tesla recommends removing the tow-hook cover, which reveals two wires. These wires correspond to the positive and negative terminals of an external power source, such as a jump box. When the power source is connected to the wires, the frunk automatically pops open. However, it is important to note that this method will only succeed if the Tesla does not have low voltage power.

Once the frunk is open, owners will then need to remove the maintenance panel by the firewall. This step allows access to a small connector that must be unclipped and removed from the battery. Following this, the positive terminal, which varies depending on the date of manufacture, must be uncovered and connected, while grounding the negative terminal.

Only after completing this arduous process can owners access the interior of the car. The door handles will then present themselves, allowing entry. However, it may take several minutes for the touchscreen to wake up and for the car to be shifted for towing.

While the outlined procedure may seem complicated and time-consuming, it is essential for Tesla owners to be aware of the steps involved in accessing a dead battery. However, some owners have expressed frustration, deeming the process unsafe, unintelligent, and infuriating. The simplicity of jumpstarting an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) car has made Tesla's convoluted access procedure a point of contention among some users.

Although experiencing a dead battery or running out of charge in a Tesla is an uncommon occurrence due to the long ranges offered by electric vehicles, the outlined steps should serve as a reminder to owners to remain vigilant about battery levels.

Teslas continue to gain popularity among consumers, with their sleek design and environmentally friendly appeal. However, this recent revelation may give potential buyers pause, as they consider the potential complications associated with accessing a dead battery.

In the end, it is advised that Tesla owners take proper precautions to ensure their vehicle remains charged and avoid the need to navigate the challenging process of accessing a dead battery.
