Best Buy has issued a nationwide recall of Insignia pressure cookers, sold both in-store and online, after receiving reports of burn injuries caused by ejected hot food and liquids.

The recall comes after it was discovered that the Insignia pressure cookers have incorrect volume markings on the inner pot, which can lead consumers to overfill the pot. This overfilling can result in the ejection of hot contents when the pressure cooker is vented or opened, potentially causing severe burns.

According to Best Buy, there have been a total of 31 incidents reported, in which the contents were expelled under pressure, with 17 of those incidents resulting in burn injuries. The injuries reported range from second-degree burns to more severe burns.

An estimated 930,000 units of the Insignia pressure cookers were sold nationwide at Best Buy stores and through their online platforms, including bestbuy.com and Amazon. Due to the potential risks associated with these pressure cookers, Best Buy is urging customers who own these products to immediately cease their use and contact the company for a free replacement of the inner pot and floating lock valve.

The recall specifically affects Insignia Multi-Function Pressure Cookers with model numbers NS-MC60SS8, NS-MC60SS9, or NS-MC80SS9, as well as inner cooker pots with model numbers NS-MCRP6NS9 and NS-MCRP6SS9, which were sold separately as replacements. These electric pressure cookers and inner cooker pots are available in six- and eight-quart capacities and feature the brand name "INSIGNIA" prominently displayed on the front of each unit and its permanent on-product label.

To prevent incidents, Best Buy advises users to never fill the pressure cookers beyond two-thirds of their capacity when pressure cooking. Additionally, users should ensure that the lid is securely locked before initiating the pressure cooking process and should wait for the floating locking valve to drop before opening the lid.

Best Buy is taking this recall seriously, as the safety of their customers is paramount. By offering free replacements for the affected parts, they aim to address the issue promptly and prevent further injuries.

Customers who purchased the Insignia pressure cookers are advised to reach out to Best Buy immediately to arrange for the replacement of the affected parts. The model number can be found on the permanent on-product label, and the inner cooker pots are black with a non-stick coating and embossed markings indicating cup and liter measurements.

It is crucial for owners of the recalled pressure cookers to act swiftly to ensure their safety and well-being, as these products pose a burn hazard if not used correctly.
