Vikings Sign Cornerback Shaq Griffin to One-Year Deal Worth Up to $6 Million

In a move to bolster their defensive backfield, the Minnesota Vikings have agreed to a one-year contract with cornerback Shaq Griffin. The deal, which has a maximum value of $6 million, was confirmed by Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report.

Griffin, who will be joining his fifth team in eight years, brings a wealth of experience to the Vikings' defense. He previously spent four seasons with the Seattle Seahawks and two with the Jacksonville Jaguars before splitting time between the Houston Texans and Carolina Panthers last season.

The 28-year-old cornerback had a solid campaign in 2023, making 13 game appearances with seven starts. He recorded 39 tackles, one interception, and five pass breakups. Despite being cut by the Texans in late November, Griffin was claimed off waivers by the Panthers.

Selected as a third-round pick by the Seahawks in 2017, Griffin had a breakout season in 2019 when he earned a Pro Bowl nod. Over the course of his career, he has accumulated an impressive 366 tackles, seven interceptions, 64 passes defensed, and a forced fumble.

The addition of Griffin is expected to provide the Vikings with a versatile defender who can make an impact in both pass coverage and run support. With his speed, athleticism, and proven ability to disrupt passing lanes, Griffin will be a valuable asset on the field for Minnesota.

The Vikings' defense, which already boasts a strong pass rush, will now have a solid cornerback in Griffin, who will provide stability and added depth to their secondary. With training camp approaching, the team and coaching staff will be eager to see Griffin's contributions and how he fits into their defensive schemes.

Minnesota fans are hopeful that this signing will help solidify their team's defense and elevate the Vikings' chances of making a deep playoff run in the upcoming season.
