In a remarkable display of resilience, Matt Masciangelo of Sacramento State made a lasting impression during a season-opening doubleheader against Loyola Marymount. The left fielder managed to reach base in seven out of his eight plate appearances solely through hit-by-pitches. Masciangelo was hit a total of seven times, breaking the Sacramento State program record and coming close to tying the MLB record for most hit-by-pitches in a game, which currently stands at three.

Despite the unusual circumstances, Masciangelo remained composed and saw the humor in the situation. Reflecting on the experience, he mentioned how he embraced the opportunities to help his team win games, even if it meant taking a few for the team. Former Cubs first baseman, Frank Chance, remains the only MLB player to achieve a feat similar to Masciangelo's back in 1904.

The second game of the doubleheader saw Masciangelo setting the Sacramento State program record by getting hit four times, and he even managed to contribute an RBI hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded, giving his team an 8-4 lead. Masciangelo, who transferred from Cal State Bakersfield, proved his resilience and commitment to the game as he persevered through the intense matchups.

Sacramento State and Loyola Marymount will continue their three-game series on Sunday at the Hornets' John Smith Field, where fans will undoubtedly be watching closely to see if Masciangelo can continue his remarkable streak on the basepaths.
