The Carolina Panthers have added some defensive firepower to their roster by agreeing to terms with former Denver Broncos linebacker Josey Jewell. The move reunites Jewell with Panthers' current defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero, who previously held the same position with the Broncos.

Jewell, a fourth-round pick by the Broncos in 2018, had spent his entire career with the club until now. He made an impact in the 2022 season when Evero was still with Denver, starting 13 games and tallying a career-high 128 total tackles, including seven tackles for loss. Jewell also showcased his versatility by recording 2.5 sacks and two interceptions.

In the 2023 season, Jewell played in all 16 games for the Broncos, finishing with 108 total tackles, 3.0 sacks, and three passes defensed. His consistently strong performances on the field made him a valuable asset for any team in need of a linebacker.

The Panthers' decision to sign Jewell comes after losing linebacker Frankie Luvu, who agreed to sign a three-year deal with the Commanders earlier this week. With Jewell's addition, the Panthers address their need for a capable linebacker and strengthen their defensive unit even further.

Josey Jewell's signing marks another notable move in the NFL free agency market. He was ranked 64th on the Pro Football Talk's list of top 100 free agents, making his acquisition by the Panthers a valuable addition to the team's roster.

As the upcoming NFL season approaches, the Panthers and their fans can look forward to Jewell's impact on the field. His proven skills, experience, and familiarity with Defensive Coordinator Ejiro Evero's system make him a promising addition to Carolina's defensive squad.
