**Dodgers Designate Catcher Chuckie Robinson for Assignment as José Ureña Joins Roster**
The Los Angeles Dodgers have decided to designate catcher Chuckie Robinson for assignment. According to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, this move acts as the corresponding 40-man roster change following the signing of right-handed pitcher José Ureña. Additionally, the Dodgers will need to make another adjustment to accommodate Ureña on the active roster.
Robinson, 30, had recently been claimed off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels, seemingly as a strategic move to reinforce the Dodgers' catching depth. Robinson's addition came in light of the team promoting prospect Dalton Rushing to work alongside Will Smith at the major league level, following Austin Barnes' designation for assignment. While the Dodgers already had Hunter Feduccia and Chris Okey as backup options at Triple-A, Robinson was considered a useful addition to this group.
However, the Dodgers’ bullpen has seen a constant rotation of pitchers, driven by numerous injuries that have landed 15 different pitchers on the injured list. This roster volatility has led to Robinson being bumped off the 40-man roster to make room for Ureña.
Robinson will likely find himself on the waiver wire again in the coming days. His major league experience has been limited and unremarkable, reflected in a. 132/.170/.194 batting line over 136 plate appearances. Nevertheless, his minor league performance has been more promising, with a .268/.333/.412 line and 91 WRC+ over 1,204 plate appearances since 2021. Moreover, his defensive skills behind the plate have received commendations.
Robinson's remaining optionable status for this year and the next season could attract teams looking to bolster their catching options. Should he clear waivers, Robinson will have the right to elect free agency due to his previous career outright.
