In a surprising move, the New York Giants recently held an "exploratory meeting" with former Pro Bowl quarterback Russell Wilson, creating speculation about the team's plans for their quarterback position. While Wilson had no guarantee of starting over Daniel Jones, it seems that the Giants are contemplating a potential change due to Jones' injury history.

Sources have revealed that Jones' injury woes have put the team in a position to consider moving on from him. Though the evaluation of Jones as a player hasn't drastically changed since he signed his substantial $160 million contract, the fact that he has suffered two neck injuries and a torn ACL in the past three years has raised concerns. Building around such injury-prone quarterback could prove to be a risky endeavor, especially given the hard-fought negotiations for a team-friendly contract structure.

The Giants' front office has been proactive in exploring their options for a potential franchise quarterback. General manager Joe Schoen and director of player personnel Tim McDonnell met with the consensus top six quarterbacks at the NFL scouting combine. Additionally, they attended USC's Pro Day to observe the highly touted Caleb Williams showcase his talents. Visits from UNC's Drake Maye and Michigan's J.J. McCarthy have already occurred, and private workouts with other top quarterbacks are expected in the coming weeks.

With the NFL draft approaching, the Giants find themselves with the sixth overall pick. However, it appears unlikely that they will be able to secure the top quarterback prospects, such as Caleb Williams or LSU's Jayden Daniels, as there are no willing trade partners among the teams holding the top three picks.

The Giants' biggest threat in obtaining a quarterback in the draft may come from the Minnesota Vikings, who recently acquired a second first-round pick and are rumored to be willing to trade up. The Vikings possess the 11th and 23rd picks and could potentially snatch up Maye or McCarthy before the Giants have a chance.

In light of their limited draft capital, acquiring just six picks this year, the Giants may be considering a trade back rather than moving up. This strategy would allow them to secure a second-tier quarterback like Bo Nix or Michael Penix Jr. while also accumulating more draft capital. It could also open the door for prospects like Tulane's Michael Pratt or Spencer Rattler to pique their interest.

The Giants not only have their sights set on a new quarterback, but they are also looking to bolster their receiving corps. Sources suggest that they are likely to draft a notable wide receiver, potentially in the first two rounds, or explore trade opportunities. The team made minimal moves in free agency to address the position, with the re-signing of Isaiah Hodgins and the addition of Isaiah McKenzie.

In the upcoming draft, General Manager Joe Schoen emphasized the depth of this year's quarterback class, stating, "It's a good quarterback draft. It's not just at the top." This sentiment suggests that the Giants may have options even if they miss out on the top-tier prospects.

As the draft approaches, all eyes will be on the Giants as they navigate the quarterback landscape. With concerns over Daniel Jones' injury history and a desire to add offensive weapons, their decisions in the coming weeks will shape the future of the franchise.
