In a surprising turn of events, quarterback Kenny Pickett has been traded from the Pittsburgh Steelers to the Philadelphia Eagles, just hours after the Steelers secured the signing of Russell Wilson. The trade deal involved a fourth-round pick in the 2024 draft going to Philadelphia, while Pittsburgh received a third-round pick in 2024 and two seventh-round picks in 2025.

Pickett's departure comes as a disappointment for the Steelers, who had high hopes for the New Jersey native when they selected him with the 20th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. However, Pickett's performance over the past two seasons did not prove him to be the long-term answer at quarterback, as he threw for 4,474 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions in 25 games.

The trade also signifies a significant change in Pittsburgh's quarterback depth chart, as Pickett was seen as a potential successor to the aging Ben Roethlisberger. With Pickett now joining the Eagles, he will serve as the backup to Jalen Hurts in Philadelphia.

Meanwhile, the Steelers wasted no time in securing a new backup quarterback, trading a conditional sixth-round pick to the Chicago Bears for former first-round pick Justin Fields. If Fields plays 51 percent or more of snaps in 2024, the sixth-round pick will be elevated to a fourth-round pick.

This move by the Steelers also raises speculation about Chicago's plans for the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft. With the likely selection of Caleb Williams as the No.1 overall pick, it appears that the Bears are preparing for a future without Fields.

The sudden shake-up in the quarterback positions for both the Steelers and Eagles has left fans and analysts eager to see how the new lineup will perform in the upcoming season. Only time will tell if these moves will lead to success for both teams as they navigate the ever-changing landscape of the NFL quarterback situation.
