In a surprising turn of events, star running back Josh Jacobs has officially parted ways with the Las Vegas Raiders. According to sources from NFL Media, Jacobs has agreed to terms on a contract with the Green Bay Packers, marking a new chapter in his NFL career.

The news comes despite efforts by the Raiders' new general manager, Tom Telesco, to keep Jacobs in the team's fold. Telesco had expressed a strong desire to explore a contract extension with the talented running back during the recent NFL Combine. He praised Jacobs for his invaluable contributions to both the running and passing game, emphasizing the importance of keeping him as a cornerstone of the franchise.

However, it seems that the price tag attached to Jacobs became too high for the Raiders to sustain. Last season, Jacobs, 26, was awarded the franchise tag following a remarkable performance in 2022, where he led the league with an impressive 1,653 rushing yards. After a holdout that extended into August, Jacobs eventually signed a new one-year contract with the Raiders.

During his tenure with the Raiders, Jacobs accumulated an impressive 5,545 rushing yards, placing him third in the team's all-time rushing yardage rankings. Only Pro Football Hall of Famers Marcus Allen (8,545) and Mark van Eeghen (5,907) sit above him on the list. However, in the 2023 season, Jacobs struggled to replicate his previous successes, recording just 805 rushing yards with an underwhelming average of 3.5 yards per carry. His season was also cut short due to injury, allowing his backup, Zamir White, to shine in his absence.

With Jacobs' departure, White, now entering his third season, is poised to take over as the Raiders' starting running back in 2024. The team may also explore options in free agency or the draft to bolster their running back corps. Telesco has expressed a desire for multiple running backs to contribute, with the possibility of pursuing Austin Ekeler, a free agent with whom he had worked during his time with the Chargers.

As Jacobs begins a new chapter in Green Bay, the Raiders will undoubtedly look to regroup and rebuild their running game for the upcoming season. Only time will tell how their search for a new lead back will unfold.
