In an offseason move, former Green Bay Packers linebacker De'Vondre Campbell has inked a one-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers, as reported by Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. Campbell, who spent three seasons with the Packers, was released by the team on Wednesday with a post-June 1 designation.

The addition of Campbell to the 49ers' roster is expected to strengthen their defense, as he will join forces with All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner. The reigning NFC champions are hopeful that Campbell's experience and talent will fill the void left by the injured starter Dre Greenlaw, who is expected to miss some game time during the upcoming 2024 regular season.

It is worth noting that the 49ers made an earlier attempt to sign veteran linebacker Eric Kendricks, but he ultimately decided to join the Dallas Cowboys. However, San Francisco was successful in securing the services of Campbell.

Campbell, who will celebrate his 31st birthday in July, had an impressive season in 2021 with the Packers, earning first-team All-Pro honors. However, he faced challenges with injuries and a decline in performance over the past two seasons.

In the recent wave of departures from Green Bay, Campbell is the second veteran to find a new team. Running back Aaron Jones joined the Minnesota Vikings on a one-year deal, while left tackle David Bakhtiari, recovering from knee surgery, remains unsigned.

The signing of Campbell by the 49ers not only bolsters their linebacking corps, but also adds depth and experience to their roster as they look to make another deep playoff run next season. Only time will tell how impactful Campbell's presence will be on the field for the 49ers, but fans are certainly hopeful that his addition will contribute to their success.
