In a move aimed at bolstering their quarterback depth, the Philadelphia Eagles have struck a trade deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers to acquire Kenny Pickett, the No. 20 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. The Eagles were quick to seize the opportunity when they learned of the Steelers' acquisition of veteran Russell Wilson, realizing that Pickett would be available for the taking.

The trade, which is pending a physical, will see the Eagles send a 2024 third-round pick (No. 98 overall) and a pair of 2025 seventh-round picks to the Steelers in exchange for Pickett and a 2024 fourth-round pick (No. 120 overall). Despite the trade, the Eagles will maintain their total of eight selections in the upcoming NFL Draft.

Pickett, a native of Oakhurst, New Jersey, will now have the chance to play for the team he grew up cheering for. His childhood memories of attending Eagles games with his father and meeting Eagles Hall of Fame quarterback Donovan McNabb have now come full circle.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound quarterback had an impressive college career at the University of Pittsburgh before being selected by the Steelers in the 2022 NFL Draft. In his final year at Pitt, Pickett led the Panthers to the 2021 ACC Championship and a No. 13 final ranking. He set numerous school records, including most passing yards, passing touchdowns, total touchdowns, and completions in a single season.

Pickett made his NFL debut in his rookie season and made an immediate impact. He set a franchise record for the most passing yards in a first career start and became the fourth rookie quarterback since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger to win their first start at home. Pickett's strong performances continued, and he finished his rookie campaign with 2,404 passing yards, the most by any rookie quarterback in the league.

During his second season, Pickett started 12 games, winning seven of them, before suffering an ankle injury in Week 13. The Steelers finished the season with a 9-8 record and secured a spot in the playoffs, but ultimately fell to the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card Round.

With the addition of Pickett, the Eagles now have Jalen Hurts, Pickett, and Tanner McKee at the quarterback position. Last year's No. 2, Marcus Mariota, has signed with the Washington Football Team in free agency.

The Eagles organization is excited about the potential that Pickett brings to the team and is looking forward to seeing him don the Eagles jersey in the upcoming 2024 season. As the NFL Draft approaches, the Eagles have solidified their quarterback group and will continue to evaluate their options to build a competitive roster for the upcoming season.
