In a surprising move, the University of Michigan has announced that Dusty May will be their new head basketball coach. May, who previously coached the Florida Atlantic Owls, will take over the Wolverines after their disappointing first-round loss in the NCAA Tournament.

The news was first reported by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski on Saturday night. May has agreed to a five-year contract with the prestigious university, marking an exciting new chapter in his coaching career.

University President Santa Ono expressed his enthusiasm about the hiring, stating, "I am thrilled to welcome Dusty May to the University of Michigan as our new head basketball coach." May brings a wealth of experience, having started his coaching journey as an assistant at Eastern Michigan in 2005 after serving as a student manager at Indiana.

During his six seasons at FAU, May achieved an impressive overall record of 126-69. He led the Owls to a winning record every single year, including a remarkable 35-4 record last season. As a No. 9 seed, FAU even made it to the Final Four for the first time in the program's history, although they ultimately lost a heartbreaker to San Diego State in the national semifinal.

After their sensational run last season, May was rewarded with a 10-year contract extension that reportedly started with a salary of $1.25 million. However, the extension came with a relatively low buyout of $1 million. Despite the promising contract, May will now have to face the challenge of rebuilding a Wolverines roster that has recently seen several important players enter the transfer portal. Notably, leading scorer Dug McDaniel and center Tarris Reed Jr. have chosen to pursue new opportunities elsewhere.

With May at the helm, the University of Michigan hopes to tap into his coaching prowess and leadership abilities to maintain their status as a powerhouse in college basketball. Wolverines fans are eagerly awaiting the upcoming season, as their new head coach looks to make his mark and steer the team towards championships and success.
