The deal, which includes $50 million in guaranteed money, was confirmed by NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport on Wednesday.
Ridley's decision to join the Titans comes as a shock, as it was widely expected that he would return to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Initially, Ridley's delay in signing a new contract was seen as a way to avoid the Jaguars having to send a second-round pick to the Atlanta Falcons as part of their trade agreement. However, as the hours wore on, it became apparent that Ridley was exploring other options, including interest from the New England Patriots.
Ultimately, Ridley chose to remain in the AFC South but swapped the Jaguars' teal and black for the Titans' navy and powder blue. With two impressive 1,000-yard seasons under his belt, Ridley adds significant firepower to a Tennessee team that has been making headlines with its recent roster moves.
The Titans also made waves by acquiring former Pittsburgh Steelers backup quarterback Mason Rudolph on a one-year deal worth up to $3.62 million, as reported by NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo. Additionally, the team secured kicker Nick Folk with a one-year, $3.755 million deal, which could reach a maximum value of $4.13 million, according to NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero.
Rudolph's move to the Titans surprised many, considering the Steelers' previous interest in retaining him for the 2024 season. However, Pittsburgh's plans changed when the Denver Broncos released quarterback Russell Wilson. The Steelers then hosted Wilson, eventually signing him as their new quarterback.
With their quarterback room now crowded, Rudolph sought opportunities elsewhere and found a backup role with the Titans. He will potentially compete with second-year passer Will Levis under the guidance of new coach Brian Callahan and general manager Ran Carthon.
Ridley, on the other hand, will join an exciting group of targets in Tennessee, which includes star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, along with Treylon Burks and Kyle Philips. The Titans have also added new running back Tony Pollard to their backfield.
As the Titans turn the page toward a new era, the addition of Ridley and Rudolph showcases their commitment to building a dynamic offense and competing in the AFC South. Fans can anticipate an intriguing quarterback battle between Levis and Rudolph as the team prepares for the upcoming season.
