The Brooklyn Nets have officially relieved head coach Jacque Vaughn of his duties following reports by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. The Nets, currently with a 21-33 record and in 11th place in the Eastern Conference, have not yet appointed an interim head coach.
Vaughn, who had been with the Nets since 2016, took over as an interim head coach in November 1, 2022, following the firing of Steve Nash. Just eight days later, Vaughn was named the permanent head coach. During his tenure, Vaughn led the team to a 64-65 record before his recent dismissal.
Sources close to the team revealed that several players had "lost confidence" in Vaughn, and the Nets' recent humiliating 136-86 loss to the Boston Celtics further exacerbated the situation. The blowout defeat is believed to have been the final straw for the front office, leading to Vaughn's firing.
The Nets are yet to name a replacement, and their upcoming game against the Toronto Raptors on Thursday will be played under an interim head coach. Vaughn's departure marks a significant shakeup for the struggling Nets as they aim to turn their season around in the wake of this coaching change.
