**28 Healthcare Workers Killed Amid Escalating Conflict in Lebanon**
In a grave development, the World Health Organization (WHO) disclosed that 28 healthcare workers lost their lives within the last 24 hours in Lebanon. The crisis emerged as Israel conducted airstrikes and deployed troops against Hezbollah, intensifying the conflict in the region.
During an online press briefing, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus highlighted the dire situation, noting that "many other health workers are not reporting to duty and have fled the areas where they work due to bombardments." This mass exodus of healthcare personnel is critically affecting the ability to manage trauma on a wide scale and maintain essential health services, he added.
Adding to the complications, the WHO will be unable to deliver a substantial planned shipment of trauma and medical supplies to Lebanon on Friday. Flight restrictions imposed in the wake of the conflict have thwarted these urgent supply efforts.
This series of events marks a significant strain on Lebanon's healthcare system amid the escalating violence, posing severe challenges for the hundreds of civilians needing medical attention in the conflict zone.
