In a shocking turn of events, Councilman Trayon White of Washington, DC, was arrested by the FBI on Sunday for his alleged involvement in a bribery scheme. According to federal prosecutors, White used his position to ensure the flow of government contracts to two companies, accepting envelopes filled with cash and lucrative kickbacks in return.

White, who represents southeast DC, is scheduled to appear in DC's federal courthouse on Monday afternoon. The alleged bribery scheme revolved around multimillion-dollar city contracts related to violence intervention services in the capital. Prosecutors claim that White agreed to accept a total of $156,000 in cash, equivalent to 3% of the contracts' value, for his involvement.

The evidence against White includes recorded conversations, as stated in court documents. Unbeknownst to White, the businessman had previously pleaded guilty to federal bribery charges and was working in cooperation with law enforcement.

The informant, posing as a businessman, offered White thousands of dollars in cash in exchange for pushing city officials towards specific contracts that would benefit his businesses. They also discussed potential future contracts.

During one recorded conversation, White was heard questioning the informant about what they needed from him, stating that he didn't want to engage in a "quid pro quo" arrangement. However, he proceeded to accept an envelope filled with cash from the informant. White bragged about his influence, claiming to be a significant voice in matters of violence prevention and on the Council.
