**Washington Commanders’ Jayden Daniels Exits Game Early Due to Rib Injury**
Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels was forced to leave the game against the Carolina Panthers early on Sunday afternoon due to a rib injury. The injury occurred during the first quarter after Daniels took a couple of hard hits while running the ball during their opening drive. Following the impacts, which helped set up a field goal putting Washington up 10-0 after an initial defensive touchdown, Daniels could be seen clutching his ribs in visible discomfort.
Daniels attempted to continue playing, even making an effort to throw on the sidelines, but the pain seemed to be too intense. He eventually headed to the locker room, visibly frustrated as he slammed his helmet to the ground while leaving Northwest Stadium. Backup quarterback Marcus Mariota then stepped in to take his place. The team initially listed Daniels as questionable to return but later ruled him out for the rest of the game just after halftime. Despite the uncertainty surrounding the specifics of the injury, Daniels' mother provided a promising update on social media, suggesting optimism for his recovery.
In the second half, Daniels was seen in street clothes on the sidelines, effectively confirming he would not be returning to play. Before his exit, Daniels had completed both of his pass attempts for 6 yards and also made three significant runs totaling 50 yards. His performance this season has been remarkable, especially considering it’s his rookie year after a Heisman Trophy-winning campaign with LSU.
Marcus Mariota initially struggled on his first drive, leading to a quick three-and-out. However, he found his rhythm during his second drive, orchestrating a five-play, 59-yard touchdown drive. The key play of the drive was running back Brian Robinson's 8-yard touchdown run following a crucial pass interference call on Noah Brown that moved the Commanders into scoring position. At that point in the game, the Commanders had accumulated 118 of their 120 yards on rushing plays.
Daniels’ contributions have been pivotal for the Commanders, leading them to a 4-2 start this season. In his previous games, he racked up 1,404 yards and six touchdowns with only two interceptions. His resilience and skill were on display even in last week's close 30-23 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, where he threw for 269 yards and two touchdowns. The Commanders will undoubtedly hope for a swift recovery for their star quarterback.
