The Detroit Lions could potentially face another setback in their front office as the Washington Commanders express interest in hiring senior director of football administration, Brandon Sosna. The news was first reported by NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, who revealed that the Commanders are actively working towards bringing Sosna on board for a high-ranking front-office role.

While specifics regarding Sosna's potential position with the Commanders were not disclosed, losing him would be a significant blow to the Lions' front office. Lions general manager Brad Holmes has publicly praised Sosna on multiple occasions, particularly for his contribution during last year's free agency period and his instrumental role in securing recent contracts for key players.

Sosna's expertise in managing salary caps and player contracts proved crucial during the Lions' productive 2024 offseason. In the past month alone, Sosna played a vital part in negotiating contracts for quarterback Jared Goff, wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, and offensive tackle Penei Sewell.

Hired by the Lions less than two years ago, Sosna brought a wealth of experience from both the college and professional ranks. Prior to joining the Lions, he served as a cap expert for the Cleveland Browns before transitioning to the role of chief of staff for athletics at the University of Southern California (USC).

If Sosna were to leave for the Commanders, it would mark the third time in the last year that another team has poached talent from the Lions' front office. Earlier this offseason, the Commanders secured assistant general manager Lance Newmark, who had spent an impressive 26 years with the Lions. In the previous year, the Arizona Cardinals hired Dave Sears as their assistant general manager.

The string of departures highlights the strong reputation of the Lions' front office, which has become highly sought-after by other teams. However, the Lions have been proactive in replenishing their ranks, recently making two notable additions to their front office. Dwayne Joseph and Tom Roth have reportedly been signed, although their official job titles have yet to be confirmed.

As negotiations between the Washington Commanders and Brandon Sosna unfold, both organizations will undoubtedly be closely monitoring these developments. Should Sosna ultimately join the Commanders, the Lions will have to navigate the loss of yet another key member of their front office, while continuing their efforts to build a competitive team for the future.
