In a weekend marred by a surge of violence, four men were fatally shot and a woman was left hospitalized with gunshot wounds in Commerce City, a Denver suburb. On Sunday, authorities reported that a person of interest in one of the cases was found dead due to a self-inflicted gunshot.

Meanwhile, in another incident in Aurora, within the Denver area, one person was killed and three others were injured during two separate altercations on Sunday, authorities confirmed.

Joanna Small, spokesperson for the Commerce City Police Department, described the weekend as "incredibly violent" for the rapidly expanding community of approximately 70,000 residents. Small highlighted that the rate of homicides in Commerce City usually averages around 5 or 6 per year. However, within a span of 39 hours, the community experienced four homicides and a person in critical condition.

Small expressed her bewilderment at the fact that the crimes appeared to be unrelated, saying, "The fact that the crimes are not related is even more baffling, really."

Law enforcement agencies have refrained from disclosing potential motives behind the shootings.

The first incident occurred on Friday night in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven convenience store in Commerce City. A man and a woman were shot, with the man succumbing to his injuries. The woman, on the other hand, remains in critical condition as of Sunday morning.

Following the shooting, officers attempted to contact a man connected to the incident who had been driving a truck. However, the individual fled and was discovered dead from a self-inflicted gunshot on Sunday morning.

On Saturday evening, a man was fatally shot at a public park with a pool in Commerce City. Authorities have taken an individual into custody, but no further details were provided by Small.

Later that night, officers responded to the sound of gunfire picked up by Commerce City's gunshot monitoring system. Police encountered a stolen vehicle with three occupants, which subsequently led to a fleeing vehicle and a subsequent crash. Inside the vehicle, a male passenger with a gunshot wound was found dead.

The driver and a second passenger sustained injuries in the crash and were taken into custody. Upon returning to the scene, officers discovered the lifeless body of a male who had been shot in the yard of a residential property. Small mentioned that the victims in this case were believed to be juveniles.

Notably, there is no evident connection between the shootings at the convenience store, the park, and the residential neighborhood, Small shared. Due to ongoing investigations, she refrained from providing additional details.

In a separate incident that occurred around 2 a.m., a fatal shooting took place in a night club parking lot in Aurora. The details about the deceased have not yet been made available. However, a 34-year-old man, who suffered multiple gunshot injuries, managed to transport himself to the hospital and is anticipated to survive. No arrests have been made in connection with this incident.

Around the same time, a shooting transpired at a housing complex in Aurora, leaving one man with life-threatening injuries. Another man involved in the incident was stabbed but is expected to recover from his injuries.

As authorities continue their investigations into these disturbing incidents, both the Commerce City and Aurora communities remain in shock and mourning as they seek justice for the victims and work towards bringing an end to the violence that has rocked their neighborhoods.
