Vice President Kamala Harris is currently holding razor-thin leads over former President Donald Trump in three crucial swing states, potentially paving the way for victory in the upcoming elections. A recent survey conducted in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, also known as the "blue wall" states, highlights Harris' edge over Trump. If she manages to secure victories in these states, it could prove to be a decisive factor in her bid for the presidency.
In addition to the "blue wall" states, a late August Bloomberg/Morning Consult poll reveals that Harris has managed to reverse the electoral dynamics in North Carolina. The poll shows that among registered voters, Harris is currently leading Trump by two points, with a margin of 49% to 47%. This marks a shift from July, when Trump held a slim lead of 48% to 46% in the state. With the population of North Carolina undergoing significant changes in the past decade, shifting the state more towards the left, it has become a battleground state for the 2020 elections.
Harris's rising popularity is attributed to her growing support from younger, non-white, and female voters. A recent survey by The New York Times revealed that Harris has managed to capture the attention and undecided support of these demographics. Notably, she has garnered the support of 84% of Black voters, surpassing the level of support that Biden had before withdrawing from the presidential race in July.
The path to becoming the Democratic nominee for vice president was paved for Harris when Joe Biden dropped out of the race on July 21. Despite initial turmoil within the party following Biden's debate performance on June 27, Harris immediately received his endorsement. She went on to announce her plans to seek the nomination and officially became the nominee in early August, garnering an overwhelming 99% of the delegates' votes in a virtual roll call.
Prior to Biden's exit from the race, multiple polls consistently predicted that Trump would defeat him in most battleground states, with the exception of North Carolina. However, in the 2020 elections, Biden emerged victorious in six out of seven battleground states. Now, with Harris leading the charge in key swing states and garnering support from critical voter groups, the Democratic ticket finds itself in a promising position as the presidential election approaches.
While the road to victory is still uncertain, these poll results suggest that Harris is making significant strides in key swing states. As the campaigns intensify and Election Day draws closer, the battle for these crucial states will likely become even more heated. All eyes are now focused on the outcomes in Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina, as the race for the White House continues to unfold.
