**Vice President Kamala Harris's '60 Minutes' Interview Probes Key Policy Stances**

In a special election edition of "60 Minutes" on CBS News, Vice President Kamala Harris faced rigorous questioning from journalist Bill Whitaker, who pressed her on the administration's policies on immigration, foreign affairs, and economic strategies. During the discussion, Harris often chose to avoid direct answers on her plans and perspectives.

Whitaker did not hold back on inquiring about the funding of Harris's economic proposals, questioning whether the administration made a misstep by softening border policies, and probing how Harris’s approach to foreign policy might differ from that of President Biden or former President Trump. At several points, Whitaker had to ask follow-up questions after Harris evaded giving specific answers, underscoring a recurring lack of clarity in her responses.

A focal point of the interview was the ongoing crises in the Middle East and Eastern Europe. Regarding the Israeli conflict post the October 7, 2023 massacre by Hamas militants, Harris aligned closely with Biden’s stance, reiterating that Israel has the right to defend itself but emphasizing that the war must end to prevent further innocent Palestinian casualties. Despite the significant military aid provided to Israel, she sidestepped direct responses on whether Netanyahu's resistance to a ceasefire indicated a diminished U.S. influence.

In discussing Europe, Harris maintained that any resolution to the conflict with Russia must involve Ukraine. She firmly stated she would not meet with Russian President Putin to discuss the war's end without Ukraine's presence. However, she was less conclusive regarding Ukraine's potential NATO membership, remarking that such decisions would be addressed as circumstances evolve.

On the issue of immigration, Harris was confronted with her administration’s apparent policy reversal. Whitaker pointed out that while Harris and Biden initially rolled back Trump-era restrictions, they have now adopted a more stringent approach. Harris attributed the lack of legislative progress to Republican opposition, yet Whitaker noted the significant increase in border arrivals and the administration's delayed response.

Throughout the interview, Harris repeatedly echoed President Biden’s views, demonstrating minimal divergence in policy plans or administrative direction. While the interview aimed to clarify the vice president’s future strategies, many questions were left unanswered, continuing a broader narrative of uncertainty in political discourse ahead of the election.
