This comes after President Biden's meeting with President Zelenskyy, signaling the Biden Administration's unwavering support for Ukraine's critical security needs.
This latest announcement marks the sixty-first tranche of equipment to be provided from the Department of Defense (DoD) inventories for Ukraine since August 2021. The Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA) package includes a range of crucial capabilities to address Ukraine's urgent requirements.
The $225 million package will provide Ukraine with essential air defense systems and interceptors, munitions for rocket systems and artillery, and anti-tank weapons. These capabilities will enhance Ukraine's ability to protect its citizens and soldiers against any potential threats.
Earlier this week, President Biden stated that the United States, in collaboration with Germany, Romania, the Netherlands, and Italy, would take joint action to strengthen Ukraine's air defenses. As part of this initiative, five strategic air defense systems, including Patriot batteries and SAMP/T systems, will be provided to Ukraine. This move aims to augment Ukraine's defense capabilities and safeguard its cities from potential aggression.
The United States, alongside its allies and partners, remains steadfast in its commitment to bolstering Ukraine's defense capabilities in the face of continued aggression from Russia. The provision of these additional air defense capabilities underscores the collective determination to aid Ukraine in defending itself.
The security assistance package for Ukraine includes a Patriot battery, munitions for National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems (NASAMS), Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), 155mm and 105mm artillery rounds, Tube-Launched, Optically-Tracked, Wire-Guided (TOW) equipment and missiles, Javelin and AT-4 anti-armor systems, small arms ammunition, demolitions munitions, and spare parts, maintenance, and other ancillary equipment.
The collaboration between the United States and its 50 allies and partners will continue to ensure that Ukraine's brave defenders receive the critical capabilities required to counter Russian aggression.
This security assistance package underscores the Biden Administration's commitment to supporting Ukraine's security and defense needs, as well as reinforcing international efforts to maintain stability and deter aggression in the region.
