In a shocking development, an 18-year-old University of Washington football player, Tylin "Tybo" Rogers, has been arrested and charged with raping two women in Seattle. The allegations raise serious concerns as court documents reveal that he had played in two College Football Playoff games for the school even after at least one of the allegations had been brought to the university's attention.

Rogers was apprehended by Seattle police officers on Friday and subsequently booked into King County Jail. The charges against him include second-degree rape and third-degree rape. Each case carries a bail amount of $150,000, according to court documents. It remains unclear whether Rogers has retained an attorney to comment on his behalf, as efforts to contact him have not been successful.

The University of Washington athletic department took swift action upon learning of the charges, suspending Rogers from all team activities until further notice. In a statement, the university affirmed its commitment to gathering facts and cooperating with the police.

The court documents shed light on the harrowing incidents. One of the victims, a 19-year-old Seattle Central Community College student, stated that she was raped in the Capitol Hill neighborhood in August 2023. Rogers allegedly met her through the Tinder dating app, with subsequent interactions leading to the assault. The victim reported the incident to the police on October 28, completing a sexual assault kit at Harborview Medical Center.

The second victim, a 22-year-old University of Washington student, reported being raped in November 2023 in the University District. She encountered Rogers at a Halloween party before connecting with him on Tinder. According to court documents, upon entering her apartment, Rogers immediately became forceful and assaulted her, even using his hand to strangle her. The victim reported the rape to the university on November 28.

Interestingly, Rogers had already faced suspension from team activities in late November 2023, a detail that was revealed in the court documents. However, he returned to team practices in mid-December. The precise reasons for his suspension were not documented in the emails circulated within the university's athletic department, but he was nevertheless permitted to participate in the Huskies' two College Football Playoff games a month later.

In the semifinal victory over the Texas Longhorns, Rogers recorded five carries for 19 yards. He also rushed for two yards in the National Championship Game against the Michigan Wolverines. Notably, these games took place after the allegations had been made and he had been suspended.

The news of Rogers' arrest and charges came as a surprise to current head coach Jedd Fisch, who was not aware of the previous suspension or the reasons for it. Fisch promptly suspended Rogers indefinitely upon learning of the allegations, emphasizing that they had nothing to do with him or the current team.

The University of Washington and local authorities will continue their investigations, cooperating as necessary, while justice for the victims remains a paramount concern. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of addressing allegations promptly and taking appropriate actions to protect the safety and well-being of students.
