Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to present his "victory plan" to US officials next week, which includes a request to use long-range missiles on targets inside Russia. The President has been urging Ukraine's allies, particularly the US and the United Kingdom, to lift restrictions on weapons. However, despite signs of a shift in the US stance, Zelensky mentioned that they are still awaiting permission to proceed with the use of long-range weapons on Russian territory.
Zelensky expressed frustration at the hesitancy of allies to authorize such actions, attributing it to fears of escalation in the region. He emphasized that while Ukraine possesses some long-range weapons, the quantity is insufficient for their defense needs. The Ukrainian leader highlighted his hopes that his arguments for receiving authorization for the missile strikes will be heard during his upcoming meetings with US President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and former President Donald Trump.
In a recent statement, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced that they had conducted a joint operation with the Security Service (SBU) targeting the Tikhoretsk arsenal in Russia's Krasnodar region. This ammunition storage base is considered crucial to Russian military logistics and was identified as a key facility for the occupiers. Ukrainian officials also reported a strike on another facility in Russia near the village of Oktyabrskiy, Tver region, allegedly containing Iskander tactical missile systems and Tochka-U tactical missile systems. The Ukrainian Defense Forces are determined to degrade Russian military infrastructure, systematically reducing the enemy's missile and artillery potential.
The ongoing operations by Ukrainian forces in Russia have not been confirmed by Russian authorities, who have remained silent on the reported attacks on ammunition depots. Despite the lack of official comments, the Ukrainian military continues its efforts to target critical Russian military facilities as part of their strategy to weaken the occupiers' capabilities. President Zelensky's upcoming visit to the US and meetings with top officials signal Ukraine's determination to rally support and address the urgent need for enhanced weaponry to defend against Russian aggression.
