In his first-ever address to the Bundestag, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged German lawmakers to ensure that Russia pays for the damage inflicted on his country during the ongoing conflict. Standing before the German parliament, Zelenskyy emphasized that those who initiated the war must be held responsible and brought to justice for every war crime committed.

Zelenskyy expressed his dissatisfaction with the idea of compromise, stating that the time for concessions had come to an end. He pointed out that when Russian President Vladimir Putin started burning Ukrainian cities and disregarding agreements and contracts, any room for negotiation evaporated.

The Ukrainian president conveyed his gratitude to Germany for its continued support and specifically acknowledged their provision of Patriot missile systems, which he highlighted as having saved countless Ukrainian lives. Germany carries the distinction of being Ukraine's second-largest supporter, after the United States, and its most significant backer in Europe.

Boldly asserting that Putin would ultimately lose the war, Zelenskyy affirmed Ukraine's determination in preventing Russia from further aggression in Europe. He stressed his commitment to ending the conflict, emphasizing that the burden should not be passed on to future generations. Zelenskyy pledged to bring the war to a close in the interest of Ukraine and Europe as a whole.

Drawing on Germany's own history, particularly the division caused by the Berlin Wall, Zelenskyy sought to resonate with the audience, highlighting the importance of preventing a similar division within Ukraine. He explained that his country fights vehemently against Russia's attempts to divide Ukraine and works tirelessly to avoid the creation of a new figurative wall.

Zelenskyy concluded his speech by stating that the only goal Ukraine pursues is peace. With Russia being perceived as standing against the international community, he rallied nations to unite and exert pressure on Russia to change its course, emphasizing that every wall can be brought down.

President Zelenskyy's address to the Bundestag underscored the urgency of holding Russia accountable for its actions and finding a lasting solution to the conflict. As Ukraine seeks support to rebuild the nation, the international community must stand together in promoting justice and peace in the region.
