In a recent interview with Ukrainian independent news outlet New Voice, Kyrylo Budanov, the Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, disclosed that there have been repeated attempts on the life of Russian President Vladimir Putin by Ukrainian military intelligence. Despite these attempts, Budanov acknowledged that they have thus far been unsuccessful and did not provide further details.

The interview, which coincided with a near-fatal assassination attempt on US presidential candidate Donald Trump in Pennsylvania, did not come as a surprise to the Kremlin. Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesperson, described the threat from the regime in Kyiv as "obvious" but assured that all necessary measures have been taken to ensure Putin's security.

Meanwhile, Budanov also warned about the looming threat of a large-scale offensive by Russian troops from the north of Ukraine. He emphasized that the Armed Forces of Ukraine would face significant challenges throughout the year. "I have already informed the Western press that there may not be much positive news coming from us this year, unfortunately," Budanov lamented.

This revelation comes in the wake of the Ukrainian Security Service's (SBU) arrest of two law enforcement officers in May last year. The SBU believed that they were part of an agent network supervised by Russia's Federal Security Service planning to assassinate President Volodymyr Zelensky and other high-ranking Ukrainian officials, including Budanov himself and SBU head Vasyl Maliuk.

The ongoing tensions between Ukraine and Russia have heightened concerns about the security of political leaders and the stability of the region. As both sides face significant military and political challenges, the international community closely observes the developments in the region, hoping for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
