In a surprising turn of events, Ukrainian troops have made significant advances into Kursk Oblast, reaching as far as 10 miles into Russian territory. As they expand their zone of control, Ukrainian forces are now targeting Russian troops that were bypassed in the initial rush. However, the Russians have responded by unleashing their most powerful defensive weapon - glide bombs. These devastating bombs, with a range of 25 miles or more and carrying hundreds of pounds of explosives, have been Russia's key offensive weapons for over a year. Now, they are being utilized defensively to hinder the Ukrainian assault until reinforcements arrive.

The Russian air force has been deploying Sukhoi Su-34 fighter-bombers, dropping up to 100 KAB glide bombs daily. Previously, these bombs were primarily used along the front line in eastern Ukraine, where Russian regiments had been making slow progress at great cost. However, as Ukrainian brigades launched the unexpected counter-invasion into Kursk, the aerial bombing shifted northwards. The intensity of combat has increased significantly, with the Ukrainian general staff reporting a heightened enemy activity deploying aviation, helicopters, and heavy weapons.

Noticing this change in tactics, the Ukrainian military strategically deployed air-defense batteries and electronic jammers along the border with Russia. These measures have proved effective as Ukrainian batteries, aided by explosive drones, managed to down multiple Russian helicopters. Nevertheless, Russian artillery damaged one Ukrainian BUK air-defense vehicle in the exchange of fire.

Despite sustained bombing, Ukrainian forces managed to push into neighboring Kursk, capturing several towns including Sudzha, the focal point of the Ukrainian counteroffensive. As the Russian army mobilized reinforcements, some of these attempts were impeded by Ukrainian rockets. Frustrated by the obstacles faced, the Russian fighter-bombers have shifted focus towards targeting Russian soil. Recent attacks by KAB glide bombs have struck Ukrainian vehicles in the village of Darino and pummeled Ukrainian troops in Leonidovo, escalating the conflict within the region.

It is crucial to note that Russian glide bombs, although powerful, are known for their inaccuracy, posing significant risks to civilians in targeted areas. As the intensity of bombing increases, the authorities have ordered the evacuation of Kursk Oblast, a concerning development for the invading Ukrainian forces. With civilians out of harm's way, the Russians may now bomb with increased fervor, raising concerns about potential civilian casualties.

As this battle intensifies, it remains to be seen how both Ukrainian and Russian forces will adapt their strategies to gain the upper hand in Kursk Oblast. The evolving situation continues to pose threats to civilians caught in the crossfire and the region's overall stability. The international community is closely monitoring the events and their potential ramifications for the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
