In a recent interview, Vadym Skibitsky, the deputy head of Ukraine's military intelligence agency, expressed deep concerns about the country's battlefield prospects in the face of Russia's aggression. Skibitsky, who stands on the peninsula known as Fisherman's Island in central Kyiv, emphasized the urgent need for more weapons and resources to counter the ongoing threat.

Skibitsky pointed out that Russia is expected to continue its plan to "liberate" the eastern Donetsk and Luhansk regions, a task that has remained unchanged since 2022. According to him, a Russian order has been issued to seize control of a target area in time for the grand celebrations of Victory Day in Moscow on May 9th. Alternatively, they aim to accomplish this before Vladimir Putin's visit to Beijing a week later. The speed and success of Russia's advance will determine their next strategic move.

"Our problem is very simple: we have no weapons," Skibitsky emphasized. He added that the lack of weapons puts Ukraine at a severe disadvantage, especially during the challenging months of April and May, which have historically posed difficulties for the country's defense.

Skibitsky's remarks reflect the increasingly precarious situation Ukraine finds itself in as tensions with Russia continue to escalate. The urgency for international support, particularly in terms of military aid, becomes evident in light of the imminent threats Ukraine faces.

As Ukraine's military intelligence agency assesses the situation on the ground, it is becoming clear that immediate action and assistance are necessary to ensure Ukraine's ability to defend itself against further aggression. The international community will be closely monitoring these developments, as the outcome will have significant implications for regional stability and security.

Efforts to secure additional weapons and resources are crucial for Ukraine's defense. The coming weeks will be crucial in determining how Ukraine tackles the escalating situation and the extent to which international support will play a role in averting a further escalation of conflict.
