After a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz at the UN headquarters in New York, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky shared his commitment to achieving a just peace using his "Peace Formula." While the two leaders discussed ways to bring peace closer, Scholz reiterated his opposition to allowing long-range strikes by Ukraine using German-donated weapons within Russian territory. Zelensky highlighted the importance of unity in realizing their Peace Formula and preparing for a second Peace Summit.
President Zelensky addressed the "Summit for the Future" at the UN Headquarters, emphasizing Russia's disruptive actions within the global arena. He condemned Russia and a small group of seven accomplices for continuously hindering international initiatives that strengthen the UN Charter. The Ukrainian leader pointed out the countries that opposed the proposed "Pact for the Future," including Belarus, North Korea, Iran, Nicaragua, Sudan, and Syria, who align themselves with Russia in such matters.
Furthermore, concerning potential long-range strikes, reports suggest that the US and UK may have green-lighted such actions behind closed doors while maintaining an element of surprise. Zelensky is set to present his peace plan, also known as the "Victory Plan," to US President Joe Biden in person. The plan includes calls for the utilization of long-range missiles against Russian targets. Despite no official announcement from the Biden administration on reversing its stance, a recent report from the Times (UK) hinted at a pact between the US and UK in support of the use of such missiles by Ukraine.
Additionally, amidst diplomatic tensions, Japan lodged a protest with Russia following the violation of its airspace by a Russian patrol plane multiple times. Japanese Defense Minister Minoru Kihara expressed deep regret over the airspace violation and urged Russia to prevent such recurrences. Concurrently, Zelensky awarded the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise to Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, recognizing Japan's unwavering support towards Ukraine since the Russian invasion. The Ukrainian president praised Japan for its continuous financial, humanitarian assistance, and collaborative technological projects, solidifying the path towards a strategic partnership between the two nations.
