The move comes just a day after Russia claimed gains in the eastern Donetsk province and launched a devastating assault on energy targets.

According to reports from Ukraine's state-owned power grid operator Ukrenergo, the shutdowns have affected both industrial and household consumers. These measures are in place in all regions except for three, highlighting the severity of the situation.

Saturday's drone and missile attack on energy facilities resulted in at least 19 people being injured. As a result of sustained Russian attacks on the power grid, Ukraine has already been forced to implement nationwide rolling blackouts. However, without the ability to efficiently counter assaults and carry out repairs due to inadequate air defenses, the energy shortages might worsen as demand increases during the late summer and harsh winter months.

Recent strikes on Ukraine's infrastructure have been particularly significant. In April, a barrage damaged Kyiv's largest thermal power plant, while on May 8th, a massive attack targeted power generation and transmission facilities across several regions.

Following Saturday's devastating assault, Ukraine's air force confirmed on Sunday that they had successfully shot down all 25 drones launched overnight. In response, Russia claimed to have taken control of the village of Umanske in the partially Russian-occupied Donetsk region.

Russia's coordinated offensive has primarily focused on the northeastern Kharkiv region. However, it also appears to be testing Ukrainian defenses in Donetsk, further south, while launching incursions in the northern Sumy and Chernihiv regions.

Meanwhile, in Russia's Belgorod region bordering Ukraine, six people were injured in shelling in the city of Shebekino. The regional Governor, Vyacheslav Gladkov, also reported the tragic death of a local official due to the detonation of ammunition.

The escalating conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues to pose significant threats to Ukraine's energy infrastructure. As both nations continue their military maneuvers, the urgency to find a peaceful resolution grows more critical in order to ensure the stability and security of the region.
