In a shocking incident, shots were fired at the Kroger Marketplace located at 3636 Springdale Road in Colerain Township on Wednesday afternoon. The incident resulted in two suspects being taken to the hospital, while at least one person fell victim to gunfire.
Colerain Township spokesperson, Jim Love, confirmed that the authorities swiftly responded to the report of shots fired at the grocery store. Initially, it was believed that one suspect had been pursued and detained, but later it was revealed that two suspects were taken to UC Medical Center for treatment.
Thankfully, no harm came to the officer involved in the shooting. However, witnesses described a chaotic scene, with several shots resonating through the store. Latashia Sawyer, who was waiting in line at the pharmacy with her daughter, recalled the moment they heard the gunshots before an employee urged them to run for their lives. The terrified shoppers scattered in all directions as more gunshots followed. Sawyer estimated hearing at least 20 shots and expressed her fear and uncertainty about whether to run or take cover.
Another witness, Kroger employee Micah Lewis, reported seeing a man pointing a gun just before she started running for safety. She overhead over her walkie-talkie that a fellow employee had been injured and immediately sought to leave the building and contact her family.
As news of the incident spread, nearby businesses took precautions and locked down their premises to ensure the safety of their employees and customers.
WCPO, a local news outlet, dispatched multiple crews to the scene and promised to provide further updates as more information becomes available.
This unsettling event serves as a reminder of the growing concerns surrounding public safety and reinforces the need for increased vigilance in our communities. The authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the motive behind the shooting and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
