**Trump Expresses Deep Concern Over Escalating Weaponry in Russia-Ukraine Conflict, Adviser Says**
President-elect Donald Trump is deeply troubled by the intensifying use of various munitions in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, according to his soon-to-be national security adviser, Michael Waltz. The concern comes as Russia's war on Ukraine approaches its third year, with heightened military activity and evolving strategies putting more lives at risk.
Representative Michael Waltz, currently serving as a congressman from Florida, conveyed Trump's apprehensions during an appearance on "Fox News Sunday." Waltz criticized a recent move by the outgoing Biden administration, which permitted Ukraine to deploy anti-personnel land mines in a bid to thwart Russian ground troop advances. Waltz drew a comparison to the grueling trench warfare of World War I, describing the current situation as "an absolute meat grinder of people and personnel."
The U.S. has decided to send these mines to Ukraine in response to changing conditions on the ground, U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announced last week. With Russian troops increasingly leading assaults on foot, Ukraine urgently requires means to slow down their advances, sparking the latest tactical shift.
Trump, set to be inaugurated on January 20, is perturbed by the ongoing violence and is prioritizing ways to restore deterrence and foster peace. "How do we bring peace?" Trump is reported to have asked, emphasizing the need for a responsible resolution to the conflict. Despite frequently claiming he could end the Russia-Ukraine war quickly, Trump has not provided specific details or a clear strategy for achieving this goal.
The recent increase in conflict intensity includes Ukraine's execution of missile strikes on Russian arms depots in the Bryansk region, following Biden’s approval for Ukraine to launch missiles with a range of up to 300 kilometers into Russia. This move was partially in response to North Korea's deployment of 10,000 troops alongside Russian forces.
Adding to the escalation, Russian President Vladimir Putin has tested a new experimental rocket aimed at Dnipro in Ukraine, further inflaming tensions. "This is a clear escalation," Waltz remarked, questioning the future trajectory of the conflict and advocating for immediate peace negotiations.
In discussions with Jake Sullivan, Biden's current national security adviser, Waltz emphasized that U.S. adversaries should not expect to exploit partisan transitions in Washington. Waltz confidently asserted that Trump’s leadership would swiftly restore peace in the tumultuous regions, including conflicts in the Middle East involving Israel and Iran-funded groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah. However, despite ongoing cease-fire discussions, no significant progress has been made in halting the violence in Gaza or the broader Middle East.
