Train Derailment in Wyoming Causes Evacuation, No Injuries Reported

In a recent incident, a train derailment occurred in downtown Wyoming and Lockland, affecting the area between Wyoming Avenue and Cooper Avenue. Fortunately, authorities have confirmed that no hazardous materials leaked from any of the derailed train cars, and residents who were initially instructed to 'shelter in place' are now free to leave their shelters.

Hazmat crews swiftly responded to the scene and assured residents that it was safe to return home. Hamilton Country EMA promptly provided updates on the location of the derailment, facilitating a coordinated response. In order to ensure safety, an evacuation was carried out within a one-block radius to the north and a two-block radius to the south of Wyoming Avenue. The Lockland and Wyoming Fire Departments efficiently evacuated residents within 500 feet of the tracks.

CSX, the railway company involved in the incident, promptly arrived at the scene and took charge of the cleanup operations. An update from the City of Wyoming's Facebook page indicated that CSX aimed to clear the site within 12 hours, reflecting their commitment to restoring normalcy swiftly. The EMA and Hazmat teams also remained on site, providing additional support during the cleanup process.

Lockland Assistant Fire Chief, Josh Blum, commended the efforts of all parties involved and assured the public that the cleanup operation would be extensive. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, minimizing the impact of the incident on the community.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide further updates as necessary. Residents are urged to follow the guidance of local officials and return to their homes with confidence, knowing that the authorities have taken all necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
