New Hampshire officials have released the identities of a woman and her 8-year-old son who were tragically killed in what is believed to be a domestic violence incident in Troy. Brittany Weston, 37, lost her life due to multiple gunshot wounds to her head, and her death has been ruled a homicide. The suspect, her husband Trent Weston, 37, called 911 from York, Maine, early Thursday morning, confessing to killing his wife after an argument.

Upon receiving the distress call, law enforcement discovered Brittany Weston's lifeless body inside the couple's Monadnock Street home. Maine police were able to locate Trent Weston's car on the I-95 bridge between Portsmouth and Kittery, leading to the shutdown of the highway as both New Hampshire and Maine police engaged in hours of negotiation with the suspect.

Tragically, the situation escalated when Trent Weston exited his vehicle and raised a firearm. In response, two New Hampshire state troopers and a Maine state trooper opened fire, resulting in the fatal shooting of Trent Weston. An autopsy conducted in Maine confirmed that he died from multiple gunshot wounds.

During a subsequent search of the vehicle, authorities discovered the lifeless body of the couple's young son, Benson. An autopsy concluded that the 8-year-old child also died from multiple gunshot wounds. Maine State Police Col. Bill Ross stated that the boy's death was unrelated to the officers' use of force.

New Hampshire officials have stated that all evidence points to Trent Weston as the responsible party for the deaths of his wife and son. The investigation is ongoing as officials strive to piece together the events leading up to the tragedy, both inside the residence and on the bridge.

Disturbingly, this case is the latest in a series of suspected domestic violence incidents in New Hampshire. Domestic violence advocates expressed concern, citing that apart from police shootings, every homicide in the state this year has been connected to domestic violence. They urged anyone facing domestic violence to contact the state domestic violence hotline at 1-866-644-3574, assuring them of immediate assistance from a confidential advocate offering support with safety planning, court accompaniment, restraining orders, housing, and other essential resources.

The state troopers involved in the fatal shooting of Trent Weston have been placed on paid administrative leave, pending further investigation.
