### Shots Fired at Toronto Jewish School During Yom Kippur: Police Launch Hate Crime Investigation

Toronto police have initiated a hate crime probe following an overnight shooting at a Jewish girls' elementary school. This marks the second such attack on the institution this year. The incident took place at around 4 a.m. on Saturday at Bais Chaya Mushka Girls Elementary School, coinciding with Yom Kippur, the holiest day in Judaism.

Inspector Paul Krawczyk from the Toronto Police Service discussed the case at a recent news conference. "No arrests have been made, and we are not releasing any suspect information at this time," Krawczyk stated. The investigation is being spearheaded by the agency's Gun and Gang Task Force with support from its hate crime unit.

Fortunately, no one was injured during the attack, and the school building was unoccupied as it was closed for the Jewish High Holidays. According to police, the suspect or suspects fired shots from a vehicle, leaving evidence of gunfire at the scene. The school was previously targeted in a similar manner this past May.

"I understand the significant trauma this can cause within the Jewish community," Krawczyk commented. "Although we can't confirm if these incidents are connected, it's a crucial aspect of our investigation." He added that officials might release video footage from the incident as part of the inquiry.

The police have ramped up their presence in Jewish neighborhoods in recent weeks and will continue to do so at the school while the investigation proceeds. Krawczyk appealed to the public for assistance, asking anyone in the area or those with dash cam or CCTV footage to come forward.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also addressed the incident, saying, "I'm very disturbed to hear that last night, as families marked Yom Kippur, there were shots fired at a Jewish school in Toronto." He expressed his concern on social media, saying, "My heart goes out to the students, staff, and parents who must be terrified and hurting today. Antisemitism is a disgusting and dangerous form of hate - and we won't let it stand."
