In the recently released 2024 high school rankings by U.S. News & World Report, New York City emerged as the epicenter of top-notch education, with all ten of the state's highest-ranked high schools located within the five boroughs. The rankings encompassed nearly 2,000 public high schools in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut combined.

Leading the pack in the state and securing impressive national rankings were Queens High School for the Sciences at York College in Jamaica, coming in at 25th, and Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan, ranked 26th across the nation. With these outstanding performances, New York City further solidified its reputation as a hub of academic excellence.

Nine of the city's public schools achieved a coveted position in the top 100 U.S. high schools, showcasing the dedication to quality education within the city. Jericho Senior High School on Long Island secured the highest rank outside of New York City, claiming the 11th spot. Following closely behind were Garden City High School at number 22, Manhasset Secondary School at number 23, Great Neck South High School at number 26, and Syosset Senior High School at number 33.

Moving beyond the confines of New York City and Long Island, other notable high-performing schools in the state emerged. Edgemont Junior-Senior High School in Scarsdale secured the 14th position, while Bronxville High School in Bronxville came in at 16th. Byram Hills High School in Armonk stood strong at 21st, with Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua following closely behind at 19th. City Honors School at Fosdick Masten Park in Buffalo wrapped up the top 25 list for the state.

A standout among the high schools nationwide was High Technology High School, which secured an impressive 24th overall ranking, reflecting its commitment to providing a cutting-edge education.

According to U.S. News & World Report, New Jersey showcased its dedication to education, with 1.97% of the top 100 high schools in the country hailing from the state. While this placed New Jersey behind Arizona with 3.3% and Washington, D.C. with 6.1%, it still demonstrated the state's commitment to academic excellence.

The rankings are based on a comprehensive evaluation of various factors. U.S. News & World Report assesses schools on a scale of 0-100, considering six key criteria. College readiness carries the most weight at 30%, followed by state assessment proficiency and performance, each accounting for 20%. The remaining three categories - curriculum breadth, graduation rate, and underserved student performance - each contribute 10%.

The 2024 high school rankings serve as a commendation for the outstanding educational institutions within New York City and the state at large, further fueling their commitment to providing students with top-tier academic opportunities.
