## South Carolina Mayor Dies During Police Pursuit After Entire Police Force Resigned

In a tragic turn of events, the mayor of McColl, South Carolina, George Garner II, passed away on Tuesday following a police pursuit. This incident occurred mere days after the complete resignation of the town's police force, which cited a "hostile work environment" as the reason for their departure.

The chase ended when Mayor Garner veered into oncoming traffic and collided with an 18-wheeler. Although the specifics of the pursuit remain under wraps, it has been confirmed that it was not related to any criminal activity. According to the coroner, the pursuit aimed to ensure Garner's well-being, with further details expected to surface soon.

The resignation of Police Chief Bob Hale, along with his five officers, came on November 21. Chief Hale announced their departure via a Facebook post, where he attributed the mass resignation to ongoing "harassment" and "personal attacks" by a town council member. Hale also stated that the council member had significantly cut the police department’s funding, impairing their ability to serve the McColl community effectively.

This is not the first time the McColl police department has faced turmoil. Earlier in June, the previous police chief also resigned, citing a hostile work environment allegedly caused by Mayor Garner.
