In a tragic incident at Yellowstone National Park, one person lost their life and a park ranger was injured following a shooting at Canyon Village. The incident, which began on the night of July 3rd and concluded on the morning of July 4th, unfolded as rangers responded to a report of an individual making threats with a firearm at the south end of Tower Falls.

Upon encountering the armed individual, rangers engaged in a gunfire exchange, resulting in the death of the person involved, whose identity has yet to be disclosed. The injured ranger, whose name remains undisclosed as well, is currently receiving treatment at a hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

The investigation into the shooting is being led by the FBI, with additional support from National Park Service special agents. As part of the ongoing investigation, an area surrounding the Canyon Lodge complex has been closed off.

Despite the unsettling incident, park officials have reassured the public that there are no active threats to their safety. However, additional information regarding the incident has not been released at this time.

Eyewitness Todd Heskett, who was staying at the Canyon Village hotel with his family, reported hearing gunshots emanating from the Canyon eatery at approximately 8 a.m. local time. Heskett immediately contacted emergency services and was advised to remain in his room until further notice. As a precautionary measure, the eatery, visitor center, and general store were temporarily closed.

Approximately an hour later, Heskett received an emergency alert on his phone confirming that the situation had been resolved and it was safe to leave the area.

As the Yellowstone community mourns the loss of one individual and prays for the ranger's swift recovery, authorities continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Visitors to the park are encouraged to remain vigilant and adhere to any further updates provided by park officials.
