In a concerning development, a ship traveling through the Red Sea was targeted by missile fire in what authorities believe to be an attack launched by Yemen's Houthi rebels. The incident took place off the coast of Hodeida, a port city in Yemen controlled by the rebels, with five missiles landing near the vessel. Thankfully, no damage was reported.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center, responsible for monitoring maritime activities, reported that the ship came under attack on Friday. The missiles, fired by the Houthis, landed close to the vessel but did not cause any harm.

Houthi rebels, known for their aggressive tactics, have been targeting the maritime route by firing missiles and drones. This attack marks another attempt to disrupt crucial sea trade in the region. Since November, over 60 vessels have been targeted by the rebels, resulting in the deaths of four sailors. Additionally, one vessel was seized and two were sunk.

The Houthi rebels have not immediately claimed responsibility for this attack, but it is not uncommon for them to take hours or even days to acknowledge their assaults. The rebels have been engaged in conflicts with various nations, including the United States, Israel, and Britain, claiming that their attacks are aimed at ships connected to these nations. However, some of the vessels targeted have no apparent connection to the ongoing conflicts.

Recently, on Monday, the Houthis claimed responsibility for an attack on the Liberia-flagged container ship, MSC Sarah V. They also stated that they used a new hypersonic ballistic missile in the assault, targeting a ship in the Gulf of Aden. In response, the United States military's Central Command destroyed a Houthi radar site. On Wednesday, another unclaimed attack occurred in the Gulf of Aden, believed to be carried out by the rebels. A similar attack took place on Thursday in the Red Sea.

The international community is expressing concern over these recurring attacks, which not only pose a threat to the safety of seafarers but also disrupt crucial trade routes. Efforts to counter the Houthi rebels' aggressive actions have included a U.S.-led airstrike campaign targeting their positions since January. However, the attacks continue, leaving authorities and maritime organizations on high alert.

As investigations continue into this latest attack, it is evident that the Houthi rebels pose a significant threat to the maritime security in the Red Sea region. The international community will likely explore further measures to ensure the safety of vessels traveling through these waters.
