In a recent investigation conducted by Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa, it has been revealed that Secret Service agents assured Butler County law enforcement officials in Pennsylvania that they would secure the building from which the would-be assassin, Thomas Crooks, shot at former President Trump and others during a rally on July 13. The investigation raises questions about the Secret Service's handling of the situation and their failure to adequately secure the area.

According to Grassley's office, during a walkthrough of the area on July 11, local law enforcement officials expressed their concerns to the Secret Service agents about securing the AGR complex buildings. In response, the agents allegedly reassured them, stating, "we will take care of it." However, despite these assurances, Crooks was able to position himself atop a nearby building and open fire on the rally attendees.

The incident resulted in former President Trump being shot in the ear and one attendee being killed, with two others critically injured. It was later discovered that law enforcement had prior knowledge of Crooks and had observed him before the event. The failure to secure the area raises questions about the effectiveness of the Secret Service's operations and their ability to prevent such attacks.

Grassley has questioned Acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe about the veracity of the claims made by the Butler County law enforcement officials. He has also sought answers about what measures the Secret Service took to ensure the security of the AGR complex buildings during the rally. The senator noted that Rowe's previous testimony, where he suggested that the locals had a plan and had been in that area before, was directly contradicted by the law enforcement officials' interviews with Grassley's staff.

The investigation is part of Grassley's ongoing independent inquiry, which includes probing multiple incidents such as the July 13 assassination attempt, a recently uncovered plot by an alleged Iranian agent to assassinate a politician or U.S. official (potentially Trump), and a second assassination attempt on the former president in Florida on Sunday.

Grassley has expressed his frustration with the Secret Service's lack of cooperation, citing their refusal to provide responses to his information requests, citing ongoing investigations and reviews. The senator argued that this refusal disregards Congress's constitutional authority to conduct independent oversight and contradicts the Secret Service's commitment to responding to Congress.

Fox News Digital reached out to the Secret Service for comment, but they have not responded at the time of writing.

Grassley's investigation highlights the need for a thorough review of the Secret Service's protocols and procedures to ensure the safety and security of public figures at events. The failure to secure the AGR complex buildings during the rally raises concerns about the agency's ability to prevent future attacks and protect the lives of those in their charge.
