A Secret Service agent was reportedly robbed at gunpoint in Southern California over the weekend, near the location where President Joe Biden was attending a campaign fundraiser. According to the US Secret Service spokesperson Nate Herring, the agent was returning from a work assignment when the robbery took place.

The incident occurred on Saturday night, just after 9:30 pm local time in Tustin, a town located about 40 miles (64km) southeast of Los Angeles. The agent's bag was stolen during the robbery, as stated by the Tustin Police Department in a statement.

The details regarding the number of suspects, their identity, and their whereabouts remain unclear. Although the Secret Service agent fired his weapon during the robbery, it is uncertain if the assailants were struck, as per Mr. Herring.

By the time the Tustin Police arrived at the scene, the suspect(s) had already fled. The police confirmed that an investigation is underway, but stated that "there is no known threat to the public."

President Biden was attending a campaign fundraiser in Los Angeles at the time of the incident. The fundraiser included well-known personalities such as former President Barack Obama, George Clooney, Barbra Streisand, Julia Roberts, and late-night TV host Jimmy Kimmel. However, it is important to note that the robbery did not directly involve the president or the fundraiser event.

Meanwhile, a video of the president at the fundraiser has been the subject of controversy, with Mr. Biden's spokeswoman claiming it was misleadingly edited. On the other hand, US justice officials have stated that the attorney general's refusal to hand over audio of Mr. Biden is not a crime. Nonetheless, House Speaker Mike Johnson has voiced his intention to continue pursuing the audio in federal court.

As the investigation into the robbery near President Biden's fundraiser continues, authorities are working to gather more information and apprehend the suspect(s) involved.
