Charleston Police have announced that a second man has been taken into custody in connection with a tragic hit-and-run incident that occurred in the early hours of last weekend, resulting in the death of two young women. Seth Alen Gilbert Carlson, a 32-year-old resident of Summerville, has been charged with two counts of reckless vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.

According to Sgt. Anthony Gibson, surveillance footage revealed that the victims were struck by two different vehicles. The first vehicle was identified as Carlson's, while the second vehicle was driven by Max David Gentilin, who was arrested last week on two counts of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. Gentilin has since been released on bond.

The tragic hit-and-run incident occurred at approximately 1:12 a.m. on April 28 near the on-ramp to the Ravenel Bridge. The victims, identified as 20-year-old Lizzy Zito and 20-year-old Arianna Gamber from Simpsonville, were found unresponsive off of Morrison Drive between Harris Street and Cooper Street at 8:32 a.m. the same day. Unfortunately, both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers initiated a hit-and-run investigation due to the presence of vehicle debris near the victims and their proximity to the roadway. Additionally, a damaged 2010 Acura TL found nearby was linked to Gentilin.

Surveillance footage obtained from the South Carolina Ports Authority showed Carlson's Chevrolet truck striking the victims when he drove off the roadway as they were walking near the bike lane of Morrison Drive. Approximately 30 minutes later, they were struck again by Gentilin's vehicle after he drove off the roadway and over the curb.

Carlson's abandoned Chevrolet truck was later discovered in West Ashley after he reportedly crashed into a ditch and fled on foot. Charleston Police Chief Chito Walker expressed the dedication of the investigators to bring justice for Lizzy and Arianna, emphasizing the impact of the decisions made by the two individuals on the victims' families.

The investigation into this devastating hit-and-run incident is ongoing, and it is anticipated that additional charges will be filed. Authorities urge anyone with information relevant to the case to contact the Charleston Police Department Traffic Unit or provide information through Crime Stoppers of the Lowcountry.

As the community mourns the loss of two promising young lives, our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of Lizzy Zito and Arianna Gamber.
