In a continuing escalation of hostilities, Russia has announced the capture of two more villages in eastern Ukraine, as its forces maintain dominance over Kyiv on the battlefield. Moscow has been steadily claiming new territory in the region, leaving Ukrainian forces outmanned and outgunned in their struggle to hold back the advancement.

According to Russia's Defense Ministry, its forces have successfully "liberated" the settlement of Novooleksandrivka, marking the most western point in the Donetsk region that Moscow currently holds. Situated northwest of the occupied town of Ocheretyne, Novooleksandrivka represents a significant territorial gain for Russia, further pushing westward into Donetsk.

In addition, the Russian army has also seized the small village of Spirne, located in the northern part of the Donetsk region near the border with the neighboring Lugansk region. This territorial expansion underscores Moscow's determination to extend its control beyond previous boundaries.

The offensive by Moscow against Ukraine has been ongoing for nearly two and a half years, causing immense upheaval and destabilization in the region. The Ukrainian armed forces find themselves increasingly strained as they struggle to defend against the advancing Russian troops.

The latest territorial gains by Russia demonstrate the persistent challenges faced by Ukraine and the urgent need for international attention and resolution to the ongoing conflict. The Ukrainian government continues to call upon the international community to condemn Russia's aggressive actions and provide support to strengthen its defenses.

As the situation on the ground escalates, The Moscow Times, an independent news source that has been operating for over three decades, has recently faced its own battle against the Russian government. Labeled as a "foreign agent," The Moscow Times has been subjected to attempts to silence its voice, a move that directly undermines the principles of journalism and the integrity of free press.

In response to this unfair treatment, the journalists of The Moscow Times remain steadfast in their commitment to provide accurate and unbiased reporting on Russia. However, they seek the support of their readers and advocates of open, independent journalism to continue their crucial mission.

Supporters are urged to contribute even small amounts, starting from $2 monthly, to help sustain The Moscow Times and enable its journalists to uphold the values of truth and transparency. By supporting this vital news source, readers can make a significant impact and contribute to the preservation of independent journalism in challenging times.

The battle for control in eastern Ukraine intensifies as Russia extends its hold over additional villages, leaving the international community with a pressing responsibility to address this ongoing conflict and ensure the principles of peace and sovereignty prevail.
