In a latest development, Republican senators and Senate candidates have been encouraged to call for President Joe Biden's resignation after he withdrew from the 2024 presidential campaign, according to sources cited by Axios. The move underscores Republicans' belief that if Biden is deemed unfit to run for president, he is also unfit to serve as the nation's leader.

NRSC Chair Steve Daines (R-Mont.) expressed concerns about national security in a statement provided to Axios. Daines stated, "Being President is the hardest job in the world, and I no longer have confidence that Joe Biden can effectively execute his duties as Commander-in-Chief. It is out of concern for our country's national security that I am formally calling on President Biden to resign from office."

However, the possibility of Republicans forcing Biden from office may face an uphill battle. Currently, Republicans hold only a small majority in the House, while the Democrats maintain control of the Senate.

Meanwhile, Republicans are also directing their focus towards Vice President Kamala Harris. Daines observed, "It has also been striking that none of the Senate Democrats who served with Vice President Harris have called for her to replace President Biden. This leads me to believe they think she is unqualified to serve as Commander-in-Chief."

Notably, Democratic Senators Peter Welch (Vt.), Jon Tester (Mont.), Sherrod Brown (Ohio), and Joe Manchin (W.Va.) have called on Biden to step aside without explicitly endorsing Harris as his replacement.

Voicing his support for the resignation demand, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) emphasized that if Biden is considered unfit to run for re-election, he is not capable of serving as president and must immediately resign from office.

Senator Rick Scott (R-Fla.) echoed Johnson's sentiments, stating in a release, "Let me be clear, if Joe Biden can't run for re-election, he is not capable of serving as president for the next six months and needs to resign today."

Additionally, J.D. Vance took to Twitter to reinforce the demand, suggesting that Biden's decision not to seek re-election is an admission of President Trump's claim that Biden lacks the mental fitness to serve as Commander-in-Chief.

The calls for President Biden's resignation from prominent Republicans indicate a growing sense of skepticism about his ability to effectively lead the country. While Democrats have called for Biden to step aside, they have not explicitly endorsed Vice President Harris to succeed him.

As the debate rages on, it remains to be seen how this push for resignation will unfold and whether it will gain traction within the current political climate.
