In a tragic development, the Albemarle Police Department has announced that the remains of 17-year-old Baylee Carver, who had been reported missing, have been discovered in Cabarrus County. The discovery was made in an area north of Highway 49 and Route 61. The police have expressed their condolences to the loved ones of Baylee Carver during this difficult time.
According to officials, an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of Carver's death. The investigation into the case is still ongoing, and the Albemarle Police Department is appreciative of the support and resources provided throughout the search.
The initial call for service was made to the Albemarle Police on Friday, reporting a troubling incident at a house on Floral Drive. Detectives later determined that Carver had been killed, but her body was not found at the residence. As the investigation progressed, the police arrested and charged 20-year-old Joshua Biles with felony obstruction and concealment of death. Biles appeared in court on Monday and is currently being held on a $250,000 bond. The connection between Biles and Carver has not been disclosed by the police.
During the search for Carver, law enforcement authorities, along with assistance from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), scoured the woods in Albemarle. Drones, K-9 units, and GPS technology were utilized in the extensive search efforts. More than 160 miles were covered by personnel from at least 15 agencies, spanning across Stanly, Cabarrus, and Rowan counties.
Lisa Briggs from NCMEC expressed the dedication of those involved in the search, stating that they treat each search as if it were their own child. However, the exhaustive search efforts have taken a toll on the search teams, both physically and emotionally.
As the investigation continues, the police are urging anyone with information to come forward. They particularly request surveillance footage or images from the early morning hours of Friday between 3:00 and 4:30 a.m. Authorities are specifically interested in any sightings of a red two-door 1999 Honda Civic with black wheels. The vehicle, which has been linked to Carver's disappearance, is registered in North Carolina and bears the license plate number 'RHC-1776.'
While the community grapples with the devastating loss of Baylee Carver, the search for justice and answers continues. The authorities are determined to piece together the events leading to her tragic death, relying on public cooperation and assistance to bring about closure in this difficult case.
