**Putin Threatens Kyiv with Advanced Hypersonic Missile 'Oreshnik'**
Russian President Vladimir Putin warned of potential strikes on key Ukrainian decision-making centers using the advanced hypersonic ballistic missile "Oreshnik" [Hazel tree]. Speaking at the CSTO summit in Astana on Thursday, Putin emphasized that Russian military officials are in the process of selecting strategic targets across Ukraine, particularly in Kyiv.
This development follows the recent deployment of the "Oreshnik" missile system to the Ukrainian city of Dnipro on November 21. Putin praised the "Oreshnik" for its unparalleled capabilities, asserting that it can penetrate even the most fortified and deeply buried structures. The missile is reportedly capable of reaching speeds of 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) per second and can withstand temperatures of up to 4,000 degrees Celsius (7,232 degrees Fahrenheit).
Contrary to weaponry that employs nuclear warheads, Putin highlighted that the "Oreshnik" avoids radioactive fallout. He stressed its precision and lack of nuclear contamination resulting from its use. "Although 'Oreshnik' is certainly not a weapon of mass destruction... it is highly accurate," Putin stated.
The threat from Russia comes in the wake of heightened missile and drone attacks targeting both military and civilian locations across Ukraine. Following these escalations, the Biden administration allowed Ukraine to utilize US-supplied ATACMS missiles on military targets within Russian territory. In response, Ukraine has conducted at least three missile strikes on Russian border regions.
As tensions escalate, the announcement of North Korean troops joining Russian forces further intensifies the ongoing conflict. The potential deployment of the "Oreshnik" missile underscores the serious threats facing strategic locations in Ukraine amid this prolonged war.
